Walt Disney CompanyRobert Iger is the CEO of Walt Disney Company. The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) is a publicly owned company that was founded in 1923 by Walt Disney and his brother Roy Oliver Disney as the Disney Brother's Cartoon Studio. The creator of Mickey Mouse, Walter Elias Disney was a pioneer and innovator in the development of motion pictures. David Low, the late British political cartoonist, called Disney "the most significant figure in graphic arts since Leonardo." Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 5, 1901. He and his staff received honors and citations from nations around the world, including 48 Academy Awards® and seven Emmys® in his lifetime. Today, The Walt Disney Company is diversified worldwide entertainment company with operations in four business segments: Media Networks, Parks and Resorts, Studio Entertainment and Consumer Products. The Media Networks segment consists of television, radio and cable operations. These include the ABC Television Network, Disney Channel, ESPN and Radio Disney. Also included in the Media Networks segment are Buena Vista Television, which produces and distributes syndicated programming; Hyperion Books, Disney's general interest publishing imprint; and Walt Disney Internet Group, which runs many of the company's Internet properties. The Disney Parks and Resorts segment generates revenues from the sale of admissions to theme parks, hotel reservations and rentals at the resort properties. The segment traces its roots to 1952, when Walt Disney built Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Today, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts operates or licenses 10 theme parks on three continents with an 11th park currently under construction in Hong Kong, along with 35 resort hotels, two luxury cruise ships and other entertainment offerings. The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida holds a long-standing record as the top vacation destination in the world. Disneyland Resort Paris is the number one tourist destination in Europe, and the Tokyo Disney Resort is the number one tourist destination in Asia. Parks and Resorts also operates the Disney Cruise Line, DisneyVacation Club (a vacation ownership program), Disney Regional Entertainment, which runs eight ESPN Zone sports dining and entertainment locations, and Anaheim Sports, Inc., which oversees Disney's National Hockey League franchise, The Mighty Ducks. The Studio Entertainment segment produces and acquires live-action and animated motion pictures, animated direct-to-video programming, musical recordings and live stage plays. Walt Disney Studios is one of the major Hollywood movie studios, and the company has a number of other motion picture interests. The Consumer Products segment works with licensees, manufacturers, publishers and retailers throughout the world to design, promote and sell a wide variety of products based on Disney characters and other subjects. For much of its history the company was known as Walt Disney Productions, Ltd.; it took its current name in 1986. In 2005, Disney had revenues of $31.9 billion. Contact Information
