Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. profile and media properties

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. is owned by Time Warner Inc..

Philip Kent is the CEO of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc..

The Turner Broadcasting System (TBS or Turner), established by Ted Turner in the 1970's, manages a variety of cable networks including CNN, TBS Superstation, Turner Network Television, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Turner South and Turner Classic Movies.

Robert Edward "Ted" Turner III was born on November 19, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His family moved to Savannah Georgia when he was nine. He attended Brown Univeristy, but was expelled in 1960 for having a female in his room. Turner's tendency to make inflammatory remarks earned him the nickname, "The Mouth of the South."

The starting point of Turner's media empire was his father's billboard business, which he took over at the age of 24 after his father's suicide. His 1970 purchase of an Atlanta UHF television station was the beginning of the Turner Broadcasting System.

Turner was one of the pioneers in the development of programming for American cable television. He once posed in front of some satellite dishes for a poster with the tagline, "I Was Cable Before Cable Was Cool."

In 1980 he founded the Cable News Network (CNN), which is generally credited with introducing the concept of 24-hour television news coverage. CNN later spawned CNN Headline News and the company launched two specialized and unsuccessful news channels -- CNNSI shut down in 2002, and after nine years CNNfn shut down in December 2004.

Turner Broadcasting and the Turner Entertainment holding company were sold to Time Warner Inc. in 1996. In 2003, company revenues were $8.434 billion.

I think Turner Broadcasting System, (More specifically the TNT channel) would be the perfect network to pick up the show "Human Target" that the FOX network gave up on. It's such a great show that I'd love to see it back on the air... and I thought that this would be the perfect fit, for it to be on this network.
I'll cross my fingers!!!

I am so disappointed that a major television network would not be providing closed captioning of a nationally televised college basketball game during March Madness. Every game on every other station is being televised today, but the Gator game is not, and it's the game I've looked forward to all day. Very inconsiderate of people who can't hear... even the commercials are being captioned!

I was appalled at the disgusting comment that Tracy Morgan made about Sarah Palin. And just as disgusting was the broadcast team of Barkley and the other person. I've seen Barkley act unprofessional before but never this blatant.
I think that I need a break from TNT until there is some atmosphere of respect shown.

The ranking information is outdated and should be updated. For example, Time Warner is no longer the largest media company. Comcast is.

Ironically, Time Warner and Comcast have recently taken opposite tracks in development. Time Warner spun off its largest unit, Time Warner Cable. Comcast is acquiring NBC Universal. Time Warner is likely to get rid of Time Inc, which was the original part of the company.

More by luck, it got rid of Warner Music just before the decline in the recorded music industry.

I'm confused as to why people are complaining about various issues relating to Turner on this website.

I don't doubt that your issues are totally valid, but this site isn't owned or operated by Turner - so your comments are extremely unlikely to be read by anyone at the company.
