Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. profile and media properties
Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. is owned by Time Warner Inc..
Philip Kent is the CEO of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc..
The Turner Broadcasting System (TBS or Turner), established by Ted Turner in the 1970's, manages a variety of cable networks including CNN, TBS Superstation, Turner Network Television, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Turner South and Turner Classic Movies.
Robert Edward "Ted" Turner III was born on November 19, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His family moved to Savannah Georgia when he was nine. He attended Brown Univeristy, but was expelled in 1960 for having a female in his room. Turner's tendency to make inflammatory remarks earned him the nickname, "The Mouth of the South."
The starting point of Turner's media empire was his father's billboard business, which he took over at the age of 24 after his father's suicide. His 1970 purchase of an Atlanta UHF television station was the beginning of the Turner Broadcasting System.
Turner was one of the pioneers in the development of programming for American cable television. He once posed in front of some satellite dishes for a poster with the tagline, "I Was Cable Before Cable Was Cool."
In 1980 he founded the Cable News Network (CNN), which is generally credited with introducing the concept of 24-hour television news coverage. CNN later spawned CNN Headline News and the company launched two specialized and unsuccessful news channels -- CNNSI shut down in 2002, and after nine years CNNfn shut down in December 2004.
Turner Broadcasting and the Turner Entertainment holding company were sold to Time Warner Inc. in 1996. In 2003, company revenues were $8.434 billion.

The ranking information is outdated and should be updated. For example, Time Warner is no longer the largest media company. Comcast is.

on october 9, 2007 my 4 yr old attempted to hang herself in initimating your cartoon network show my gym partner is monkey// this has been very upsetting to me// she is alive and we are now going through mental health therapy with 2 therapist and 1 doctor// i sent to 2 emails to the cartoon network but as of today i still have not heard a response back// i am very stressed out and very depressed about this// your company could have at least had the kindness to respond back/ since this incident i have blocked this channel// i grew up on smurfs and scooby doo, etc; i am shocked at the shows that are being displayed on our tv's. while i take responsbility of my daughter's welfare; i hold your company equally responsible as well// i have no idea how much or long this therapy will be or how it will affect our lives// i now am on eggshells w/DSS on back and my job in jeopardy due to the sessions (I am going to need therapy by the time this is over and I am a single parent w/ no support on this) she is just 4 years old// in the meantime i am trying to adjust to all this keep my job and stay calm// i hope you someone in your organization looks into this and reviews the shows especially the one that my daughter attempted to imitate// the good news is department of social services and the therapists believe that i did not do this and based on my daughter's acknowledgement of trying to hang like the monkey's in your show// i am not currently in the penal system// yet i feel bad every day b/c i trusted your content// i do not know if she will ever be ok especially with all this therapy but at least she is alive and through our faith we will be ok// i just wanted you to know that your company could take some responsibility in this// my second email to CN was letting them know I may contact our local tv stations and paper in SC// I also have at the therapist advice looked into an attorney and of course i have sent the 2 emails// its amazing how a billion dollar can not take the time even have a staff to answer emails like mine and acknowledge some form of apology//

Your baseball playoff coverage is outrageously inept technically. There is a serious 'oops' in almost every inning.

1966 There was a t.v episode that aired back in 1966 I believe it was. I remember watching it around 1977 till around 1980. I would love to see some it come back to the air for a at least a special televised event.
