To help combat copyright violations (and make it less likely to be sued as a service provider) I just added the following to my .htaccess file.

Others might copy and paste it into theirs for the same reasons, it will save you all the typing I did.

A BIG "Thank you!" to Mediaowners.com for making the research a bit less daunting.

I doubt if many writers intentionally violate copyright laws, but paraphrasing from a non-Stephens source, could easily reflect content that the (intermediary) non-Stephens source had lifted from a Stephens source.

You could be helpful if you would post details on what and how much can legally be used... ('rumor' says that just 2 or 3 sentences are ok, but is it?)

What if full credit is given, even a 'link' to the source??? Does that fulfill copyright requirements?

After all, if full credit is given with a link, it should help introduce other web-surfers to your site and increase your web traffic... so whatz ya griping about???

Dear Sherman,
The article in todays Review Journal about Stephens Media's collusion with some sleazeball attorney to sue online journalists is nothing short of disgusting. I am amazed a media group as prominent as Stephens would side with someone who tries to make money on the back of online writers. Sherm, you should be ashamed. This is not worthy of Stephens Media selling copyright to a sleazy attorney who will sue thanks to your help. Correct this problem, Sherm. Stop selling to this guy. Uphold the freedom of journalism.

Concerning the Message Boards and Posts of the Ely Times, Ely, NV.

One individual has posted threats and innuendos to threats on a regular basis. This individuals moniker is "nevada1". He has printed, in your paper, that he carries a gun (.45 cal) at all times and he claims he has confronted a local man with a shotgun. As a retired police office and a Magistrate from the State of Florida I recognize that there is an unstable component in play here. I have been verbally assulted by him in your paper and I have been in constant communication with the Moderator and editor of the paper. I have promised to have no contact with this individual via your message boards or Personal Messages. I have kept my promise but the baiting and threats continue. I even requested of the Moderator/Editor to disable the Personal Message feature of my membership, to no avail. Because of recent matters in Las Vegas and the extensive paper trail here in Ely if something happens because of the unstable nature of this individual the Ely Times will be right in the middle. I have tried to bring this to attention of your papers staff, moderator and editor but it seems to be falling on deaf ears.

Just a note to the wise,
