Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc.
David D. Smith is the CEO of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc.. Sinclair Broadcast Group (SBG), based in Maryland, is a major operator of local broadcast television stations in the United States, with a total of 61 stations in small and medium-sized markets across the country. Broadcasts by SBG stations can be received by about 24 percent of American households.
Most Sinclair television stations are affiliated with either Fox or the WB Network. In October 2002, SBG launched a "local news network" in which many of its local stations receive content originating from a centralized corporate news operation.
The company generated controversy in October 2004 when it was reported that Sinclair would preempt prime time programming on all of its stations to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," a documentary critical of U.S. presidential candidate John Kerry, two weeks before the November 2 election. As political mudslinging ensued and over 100 advertisers pulled their ads, Sinclair announced that it had never intended to air Stolen Honor in the first place.
Sinclair Broadcast Group is 86% owned by the four sons of Julian Sinclair Smith, the founder of the company. SBG was founded in 1986, went public in 1995 and is traded on the Nasdaq Exchange under the ticker symbol SBGI. 2004 total revenue was $708.3 million. Contact Information

Media Owners editors Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 12:17am on Tuesday, August 11th, 2009 | On August 5, 2009, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. reported financial results for the six months ended June 30, 2009.
Commenting on the quarter, David Smith, President and CEO of Sinclair, stated, "In a normal economic environment, we would typically generate some of our highest advertising revenues for the year in the second quarter. However, this was not the case this year. Second quarter time sales of $109.8 million were about $1.0 million lower than the first quarter, an indication that Sinclair continues to be adversely affected by the economic recession. Despite this, we still outperformed the industry, based on third party data, a sign that our sales force continues to aggressively work accounts. On the expense side, we have been working with our station management to find areas where we can cut costs and create efficiencies for the longer-term.
"Regarding the balance sheet, we continue to have discussions with the holders of our 3% and 4.875% Senior Convertible bonds, which have the right to put the bonds back to the Company in May 2010 and January 2011, respectively. A resolution with the bondholders must take into consideration the Company's ability to service our debt going-forward and provide for the refinancing of future maturities."
Mr. Smith continued, "We were notified by Cunningham Broadcasting Corporation, our LMA partner in six markets, that their secured lenders granted them an extension to October 30, 2009 on the repayment of a $33.5 million term loan facility which cross defaults to our secured credit facility. Cunningham and its lenders continue to seek a resolution to satisfy the debt maturity. This resolution may have a financial impact on Sinclair."
Financial Results:
Net broadcast revenues from continuing operations were $133.0 million for the three months ended June 30, 2009, a decrease of 18.8% versus the prior year period result of $163.7 million. The Company had operating income of $25.8 million in the three-month period, as compared to operating income of $43.3 million in the prior year period. The Company had net income attributable to the parent company of $2.8 million in the three-month period versus net income attributable to the parent company of $11.8 million in the prior year period. The Company reported diluted earnings per common share of $0.04 for the three-month period versus diluted earnings per common share of $0.13 in the prior year period.
Net broadcast revenues from continuing operations were $264.3 million for the six months ended June 30, 2009, a decrease of 18.6% versus the prior year period result of $324.6 million. The Company had an operating loss of $80.9 million in the six-month period versus the prior year period operating income of $89.5 million. The Company had a net loss attributable to the parent company of $82.9 million in the six-month period versus net income attributable to the parent company of $26.8 million in the prior year period. The Company had a diluted loss per common share of $1.03 in the six-month period versus diluted earnings per common share of $0.31 in the prior year period.

Alan Wengren Tallahassee, Fl 32311 | Posted at 9:36am on Thursday, May 21st, 2009 | I was working for an apartment complex as a maintenance technician since December 7th of '08. My supervisor was there a bit longer then I was but back in the beginning of this year he put in his two week notice to leave. Then I was asked to take the job of Supervisor which I turned it down because I didn't have the experience. Then my supervisor who was leaving decided to stay because they gave him a pretty substantial raise.
Well a few months went by and last month he put another two week notice in and wanted to leave again. My company put an ad out to hire another supervisor to take his place. They in fact had some interviews with other people to take over his position. They hired another person to take the supervisors position but the person who was leaving (my Supervisor) decided to step down from maintenance supervisor into my position as a tech and stay "again" with the company.
Before I knew what was going on they called me into the office and said: We want you to go to another property as a supervisor. I explained I turned it down before because I was not qualified but then they said: "There is no option or you could loose your job" I went to look at this place and to my surprise I found nothing but a filthy health hazard property which for one had "Gas" appliances I know nothing about.
I told my regional manager I don't know anything about these appliances and would not want to put myself in this position (first because I wouldn't want to cause anyone else harm) or hurting myself or worse yet killing myself with something as dangerous as this not having the experience to repair gas appliances.
Then I said I don't want to work in the conditions at this property due to the unhealthy conditions. She insisted I take this and said "There is no longer a position open for you where you are now". Then I get a letter the next day at 6pm on a Friday telling me "If I don't show up on the following Monday morning (May 11th, 2009 then they will "consider" I have abandoned my job and quit without notice.
I went to the property on Tuesday as I had something to do that Monday and they said I was OK as far as having a job. Well that Tuesday morning I could not believe my eyes and worked until 11:30am as I had another appointment elsewhere. I did not return to this property as again, I felt as though they were treating me as some prisoner by threatening me and making me take a position
as supervisor and work on appliances I had no experience with thus, tying my hands and putting me in a corner with no other options, possible endangering myself or others around me.
Now you tell me, how in the world can a company give the guy who was suppose to be leaving twice an option to stay and make me go into a situation without the proper experience and no training what so ever threatening my employment?... The person who was leaving has all of this experience they would need at this other property working on gas appliances and also taking the supervisor position as he already was a supervisor anyway.
So, with this in mind, I would like to join your team but I don't think I would work in the maintenance department again, ever!. I have never seen this kind of thing done to someone and I have never experienced this in my life. I have always done great work and have residents who have written letters how well I perform to take care of their apartment homes and now I get this!.
I want action against this company for their actions causing me this grief and my job. I don't believe this is right! I don't believe they can "Assume" I quit and I don't believe they can put me in a dangerous situation I don't feel comfortable with especially since I have not signed anything or received and further training to handle this position which even if I did have training I would not go simply because of the working conditions are terrible and a hazard to me and the people living there.
Can someone please help me with this??
