National Geographic Society profile and media properties
John M. Fahey Jr. is the CEO of National Geographic Society.
The National Geographic Society was founded in 1888 "for the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge." In 1898, Alexander Graham Bell became the president of the society.
The Society publishes The National Geographic Magazine 12 times per year along with special editions. It 1995, National Geographic began publishing a Japanese version which has led to an expansion to many other world langauges, now totalling 27 with a circulation of over 9 million. Other publications include National Geographic Kids, National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic Adventure and National Geographic Explorer.
National Geographic television specials and series have been shown on PBS and other networks in the United States for many years. Recently the society launched its television network the National Geographic Channel (NGC), jointly with Fox Television Network, for cable and satellite viewers. Company sales in 2003 were $531 million.

-- October 27, 2010 -- Gilbert M. Grosvenor, chairman of the National Geographic Society, is retiring from his position at the end of the year. Grosvenor will be replaced by new chairman and chief executive officer John Fahey. Also, former global media group president Tim Kelly will assume the duties of president on Jan. 1. | |

-- October 20, 2010 -- John Q. Griffin, executive vice president of the National Geographic Society and president of its publishing unit, is stepping down and will be succeeded by Declan Moore. The company has also promoted Claudia Malley to executive vice president and worldwide publisher for National Geographic Global Media. The moves are effective on Dec. 15. | |

i just came her in belgium, and i always watching the national geographic, but recently i saw about locked up abroad phillipine terrorist, as you all now, when ther's no terrorist in the phil. it is a beautiful country its nice to stay there, a lot of beautiful natures that is hidden in every places animals also as you all now phil; is consist of 7,1007 island can you protect them from danger of extection and feature also the beauty of the country if your affraid just ask the protection of the gov't official and they will help you for sure...
