Landmark Media Enterprises LLC (formerly Landmark Communications, Inc.) is a privately owned media company with interests in American newspapers, American TV stations and electronic publishing. Landmark owns Dominion Enterprises, which publishes magazines and produces web sites about the real estate, employment, recreational, industrial, and travel markets. The company is also involved in database marketing, career education, and trade shows.
Landmark is headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, where the company's flagship newspaper, The Virginian-Pilot, is published.
Chairman Frank Batten Jr. and his family own Landmark Media Enterprises. In 2008, Landmark tried to sell all of its media holdings, including newspapers and television stations. However, the 2008 financial crisis prevented possible acquirers from obtaining debt financing.
Landmark founded and owned the cable television service The Weather Channel, which is based in Atlanta. In June 2008, Landmark sold The Weather Channel to a consortium led by NBC Universal and two private equity firms -- Bain Capital and the Blackstone Group. The buyers are reported to have paid $3.5 billion. The Weather Channel is the leading brand of weather information on television, reaching 96 million households on basic cable, according to Landmark.
WTVF TV (NewsChannel 5 Network) in Nashville and KLAS TV in Las Vegas make up the broadcasting division of Landmark.
Most of the small newspapers owned by the company are part of the subsidiary called Landmark Community Newspapers, LLC.

No wonder they keep losing money. With a Editorial Board at the Roanoke Times no better then the NBC editing disaster on the Zimmerman situation. We lost our small parrot and wanted put a notice in lost and found. The Perry Couty Indiana News Paper said we would have to pay $18+ for the two paper printings(one week). If we had a TV to give away it would have been free. What happend to Public Service??? | |
