General Electric CompanyJeffery R. Immelt is the CEO of General Electric Company. General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) is a giant, multinational technology and financial services company. GE produces transportation equipment, aircraft engines, kitchen appliances, lighting and plastics to name a few, and is a world leader in financial services. The American inventor Thomas Alva Edison was one of the founders of General Electric. In 1890 he organized the Edison General Electric Company to manage his businesses. General Electric founded NBC in 1926 as a radio broadcasting network. The RCA company, founded by GE and AT&T in 1919, took control of NBC in 1932, but GE regained control of NBC when it bought RCA in 1986. GE's media subsidiary, NBC Universal, was formed in May 2004 through the merger of NBC and Vivendi Universal Entertainment. NBC Universal owns and operates the NBC television network, the Telemundo Spanish-language network, a group of cable news and entertainment networks, the Universal Pictures motion picture company, television production operations, a television stations group and the Universal theme parks. GE had a major presence in the computer industry during the 1960s, but sold its computer division to Honeywell in 1970.
