Gina Sanders is the CEO of Fairchild Fashion Group.

Fairchild Fashion Group is a unit of Conde Nast Publications, which is owned by Advance Publications, a major American print media company.

The company was originally called Fairchild Publications, founded in Chicago by Edmund Fairchild in 1892. Fairchild acquired a newspaper covering the men's clothing business, which he renamed the Daily News Record. From that publication a separate publication about women's wear was launched, which became Women's Wear Daily. Fairchild Publications also published a range of trade and consumer titles including Footwear News, Supermarket News, W and others.

Fairchild Publications was sold to Capital Cities Communications in 1968. The Walt Disney Company bought Capital Cities in 1996, which by that time also included the American Broadcasting Company. Fairchild Publications was sold to Advance Publications in 1999.

Today, Fairchild Fashion Group publishes Women's Wear Daily (WWD), the fashion industry trade magazine often called "the fashion bible." Women's Wear Daily covers fashion business news and women's fashion trends for a readership of retailers, designers, manufacturers, marketers, financiers, media executives, socialites and trendmakers.

The company also produces web sites for the fashion trade and holds conferences through its Fairchild Summits unit.

Peter Kaplan Named Editorial Director of Fairchild

July 14, 2010 -- Peter W. Kaplan will be the next editorial director of the Fairchild Fashion Group, it was announced today by Gina Sanders, president and CEO of Fairchild Fashion Group (FFG). In this role, he will have editorial oversight of Fairchild Fashion Group's portfolio, including WWD, WWD.com, Footwear News, Menswear, Fairchild Summits, Fairchild Books, and trade shows. The appointment is effective August 2nd and will report to Ms. Sanders. Patrick McCarthy, currently chairman and editorial director, is leaving the company at year-end, and will remain Chairman uncil his departure.

"Peter is a distinguished journalist who has a true passion for newspapers and new media. Given the rapid evolution of business and new technologies, his experience will be invaluable as we position the Fairchild properties for the future," said Ms. Sanders.

Mr. Kaplan comes to Fairchild Fashion Group from Conde Nast Traveler where he has been editorial creative director since 2009. From 1994 to 2009 he was editor of The New York Observer, the weekly newspaper which covers media, politics, style, culture, real estate, and business in New York. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kaplan worked as an editor at New Times magazine, Esquire, and as a Style section correspondent for The Washington Post. From 1984 to 1985, he was a culture reporter for The New York Times. He was executive editor of Manhattan, inc., and later was its editorial director under Clay Felker. He also served as the executive producer of Charlie Rose's nightly television program on PBS from 1993 to 1994.

"I'm really looking forward to working with WWD's Editor-in-Chief Ed Nardoza and the editorial teams in making the second Fairchild century as full of journalistic pop as its first."
