Emmis Communications Corporation profile and media properties
Jeff Smulyan is the CEO of Emmis Communications Corporation.
Emmis Communications is an Indianapolis-based radio and television group. It owns radio stations in some of the largest US markets, including New York and Los Angeles. The company also is active outside the USA, operating nine FM radio stations in Belgium and a radio network in Slovakia. It also publishes books and magazines. 2005 sales totalled $618 million.
In 1980 Emmis Broadcasting founder Jeffrey Smulyan purchased radio station WENS (now WLHK) in Indianapolis. The station's success led him to purhase other radio stations throughout the country. Emmis took full advantage of the money-minded 1980's as it acquired five NBC radio stations in 1988 but ended up selling two stations to avoid a local market duopoly. Emmis purhased the Seattle Mariners in 1989 but sold the team in 1992. In 1994 the company purchased WIBC and WNAP in Indianapolis from the Horizon Broadcast Corporation and WRKS in New York City from the Summit Communications Group.
Emmis Broadcasting changed its name to Emmis Communications in 1998.

I am also looking for the Country Marketplace magazine. Being an avid crafter, I really miss the quality projects in the magazine. It was a must have the minute a new issue came out.

Did anyone get an answer? This was a great magazine and I really miss it. Please consider bringing it back. Country Sampler is looking to much like every other Country book, I miss these two as they were back 10 years ago.
