Paul Mackler is the CEO of CommerceConnect Media.
CommerceConnect Media was formed in 1999 to acquire and develop a wide range of targeted media products including trade magazines, custom marketing communications, trade shows and conferences. It is also involved in new media offerings such as web site advertising and hosting, online auctions and other e-commerce activities.
CommerceConnect is a partnership between Paul Mackler and ABRY Partners, LLC, a private equity investment firm based in Boston, Massachusetts. ABRY has investments in companies like Avalon Cable, Citadel Communications, Connoisseur Communications, Muzak, Nexstar Broadcasing, Pinncale Towers and Quorum Broadcasting. The company's investments exceed $800 million in broadcast and cable television, radio, recorded music and motion picture exhibition.
In June of 2000, CommerceConnect acquired Cygnus Business Media for $275 million. Cygnus is a business-to-business communications company which, at the time of the CommerceConnect acquisition, had a portfolio of 140 properties including 48 trade magazines, 16 trade shows and conferences, 17 custom publications and 60 websites. Cygnus Business Media had revenues of $96 million in 2000 and employed over 430 people.
