I have to agree with you mizliz. I sold media for more than twenty years and I must tell you that I am ashamed of my profession for what it has done to our county. And I am sick of being spoon fed and brainwashed bits of info in sound bites of what they want us to believe.

I subscribe to the Oregonian. I wish I didn't, I wish there was a comparable newspaper in my area, but The Columbian is pretty poor. I have watched with dismay while this paper becomes the mouthpiece for conservative big business. The latest insult to us all is the wrap-around front page ads against initiatives 66 and 67 which would increase the corporate minimum tax from a laughable $10 to $150.

And aren't the rich folk just furious! Who cares about schools, firefighters, law enforcement etc?
The Oregonian editorial page has become a propaganda outlet. Their latest "triumph" is the Supreme Court decision just yesterday to allow corporations to outright buy their political candidates with no limits. We're in trouble, people, and it's due to people like the Newhouses.

In the Primary 2008 Election, the Oregonian newspaper and TV stations in Portland, Oregon, refused to invite me on debate / forum of candidates for US Senate. It is a violation of the Constitution of the USA: USC T 47, section 315. It is a crime.
What a shame on the media. All money, money and money.
The money will NOT shield this nation from weapons of mass destruction. And dead people do not need money.

Do you have an online archive site where we can visit your past issues? From what we have seen and heard so far you are fair in
your reporting, however, before we subscribe we would like to see some back issues.

I disagree with Ms. Collier. To portray Sen. McCain and his wife in the manner she suggests would be just as immoral and vulgar as what David Remmick, the editor of The New Yorker, has already done. This type of slandering of the presidential candidates needs to stop.
However, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the next cover of this magazine feature Mr. Remmick and everyone else in The New Yorker's management positions who thought this was a good idea, dressed in clown suits, sitting in dog waste and declaring "We're all a bunch of duffuses!"
I'm sure that won't happen, however, Instead, the magazine will probably have record sales and make a bunch of money which is, of course, what they are hoping for all along. After all, just look at how much publicity they're getting. Also, I believe Mr. Remmick and his dittoheads are the types that can dish it out but can't take it themselves. So don't expect them to apologize. They're too busy patting themselves on the back.

Oh were the posts getting to close to the truth? Awe poor baby. Can't take the heat, but you still dish the stuff out every chance you get. Such cowardly Cheney heads.

AH so you do censor/moderate. Do you use an automated sysytem? If so, it must have many words and phrases that it looks for.And all I wanted was to post my reaction to the New Yorker's neoconservative tactics and attempting to to call it just satire. Yeah Right! OK so I know this won't get online either, but hell, at least I was able to vent my dissatisfaction with The New Yorker. But then again, I'm certain that after your cover page, many more have on sites that do not censor. EFF YOU

Hmm, I wonder why why my initial comment has not been posted? Is the site now censoring posts that disagree with the New Yorker? Let's see where this one goes.

Makes you wonder about the agenda of this company. Are the owners afraid of black president who might be sympathetic to Muslims? What is the religion and ethnicity of the owners?

Hard to believe they actually tried to legitimize it by referring to it as satire. I see it as a blatant neoconservative tactic. Disgusting, hateful and beyond words actually. I do hope that the magazine goes under. Because there is absolutely nothing satrical about the cover except for showing just how low the New Yorker can go. I think they shot a huge hole in their own feet with this one and the blowback will be seen in the decline in subscriptions. Like my Mother said, I wish I had a subscription so I could call up and cancel it out of protest.

I am shocked at what I saw today on your magazine as it reminds me of living in the sixties as a little girl when racist comments were a daily event and people lived in fear of other peoples differences. Give me a break, you want me to believe your intent was satire? Never! I know exactly what your intentions were by publishing it. I see right through it. Shame on you.

I thought the cover was supposed to be satire not blatent racial stereotyping. Sales must be down. I will make sure that any magaizine that you publish will never cross my threshold. Will let every one I know to cancel as well. ( W and Lucky former subscriber)

The Newhouses are the same family that made the Cleveland Plain Dealer endorse Bush over Kerry after the staff voted almost unanimously for Kerry. The Newhouses constantly degrade local Cleveland democratic office holders as well. They are also Neocons. So you have to figure they are not Obama supporters.

I'm outraged but not surprised by the Obama “satire” on the cover of the New Yorker. The editorial board’s blatant attempts to paint the Obamas as Muslims and terrorists(?) is not only outrageous but offensive. I’ll be waiting to see a cover featuring John Macain in full grand dragon garb and his wife as miss scarlet with a cross burning as the backdrop. You can be sure from this day forward I will not line your corporation’s pockets with any more of my money as I will cease buying any of your publications and I will vehemently encourage everyone I know to do the same.

Who are the Newhouse brothers? What is their agenda? Has anyone read the cover story in this month's Harper's? Are the Newhouses part of "The Wrecking Crew?"

Barbara P. Fleming   Yellow Springs, Ohio

I am appalled and disgusted by the racist cartoon of Michelle and Barack Obama in terrorist attire down to a semi-automatic rifle carried by Michelle Obama that is featured on the cover of the New Yorker magazine. The racist message of this cover is palpable and it speaks volumes about the lack of respect for the Obamas in the New Yorkers' editorial office. The Obamas have done nothing to deserve the disrespect and degradation that his cartoon depicts other that strive to be good Americans who are committed to helping their country in its hour of need. I would venture to say that neither David Remnick's nor Barry Blitt's resumes can touch either one of the Obamas in terms of their educational or professional accomplishments. both David Remnick and Barry Blitt should be fired for exercising the worst possible judgement and for slandering two admirable people a damned sight better than either one of them could ever hope to be. The cartoon is racist and bigoted and I am calling upon everyone I know to cancel their subscription to the New Yorker and any other Advance Publications media just as I intend to do. There is absolutely no justification for running such a despicable cartoon on the cover of the New Yorker.

Having read many newspapers large and small accross the Ohio valley and most Big city USA media a lot could be gained from studying The Cleveland Plain Dealer in it's historical form and function. All newspapers have suffered since Gannetts McPaper came along. Reading multiple papers is not as enlightening as it used to seem when each seemed more unique.
