Ogden Newspapers Inc. ruin good newspapers. I know, I work for one. These guys are penny pinching boneheads. They will move in and soak up good papers, firing reporters and photographers for the sake of profit. Run these goons out of town.

Dear Mr. Ogden,
Hello! I spoke with you some months back about online comments vs. letters to the editor. I am writing about the letter that is pasted below. The Valley Voice is a very popular and treasured small town newspaper. Perhaps you know a student of journalism that has talked about starting a newspaper. Perhaps someone in your organization needs to cut their teeth on such a publication. If so, please let them know about the Valley Voice.
Sincerely,
Maria

To Whom It May Concern, 7-26-2011
I am writing to you in the hopes that you would be willing to buy another newspaper. I am referring to the Valley Voice in Sheffield Pa. They had the Sheffield Observer in the 1950s and 1960s and 1970s. In 1979, new people took it over and named it the Valley Voice. In 2010, they announced the desire to retire but did not do it. At the beginning of 2011, they said that their decision is final and that they are going to retired on Dec 31 2011.
They have run articles trying to find a buyer but so far, no one has come forward. This paper is vital to that community. It is a fine little town. They also have customers that they mail to all over the country. I would change or add some things if it were up to me.
My family is from Sheffield so that is why I am concerned about this. Would you please email me and let me know if you would be interested in acquiring this paper so that the town can keep it going? If so, I can give you the contact information for them unless you get it yourself.
The clock is ticking and a lot of people would like to see this paper continue far into the future. I would appreciate your reply to me.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Barry Keller..

I find the Tribune Chronicle an abomination. I used to live in Warren, but recently moved to Orwell, north of Warren. I can't stand the right-wing idiots that run that misguided ship down there. The upper management there is a bunch of money-grubbing lunatics. I wish someone would buy this eye-sore of a "paper" and get some real diversity back in this paper. For now, I'm happy reading the Ashtabula Star Beacon, but I'll come back and read about my hometown once the morons leave the building in Warren.

The political agenda spouted by the Warren Times Observer is getting ridiculous. I was blocked and banned from the Facebook page (and other Warren pages I never even commented on) for telling the truth about Tom Corbett and calling the right-wingers there out on their lies. I got banned and blocked from the official website because I called a bigot a bigot one too many times in the forums. And now they have gone into overdrive printing letters to the editor that are unequivocally bigoted in nature! The steady stream of religious intolerance and homophobic prejudice is not only outrageous its just plain offensive. What is going on? They refuse to print any of my letters but Shannon Hannah and all these other lunatics get printed over and over and over again so they can express to the world just how nasty, uneducated and bigoted they are? I knew they were right-wing skewed, and all of their online reviews state it very plainly… but this is just disgraceful! I’ve called them shameless before, but really to exclusively give a fixed platform to the bigots of this community while ignoring any other voice is not just shameless… it’s contemptible!!!

paper continues to censor my letters because i am critical of alleged policy of not publishing anything that goes against any one/ thing that pays for an ad in paper. this to include the alleged bum who just won as new state senator from our area. i am appalled that the alleged editors/ publisher of the News/ Sentinal can continue to keep their jobs while violating with alleged hypocrisy, bias and discrimination the rights of others to free speech. i know it only applies to government but the viewer choice/ letters page should be open to one and all.

the editors to include spanner, cox and most especially jim smith (executive editor) have refused to print my submissions/ letters for most of the past year because i have taken such exception to how allegedly biased, bigotted, discriminatory and unprofessional jim smith is in his actions.
none of my letters use profanity; make threats or abuse anyone. i am very hard on public/ private figures who abuse their positions, mislead the public or use funds to disadvantage the public. the news sentinel in parkersburg has allegedly prostituted itself for every possible advertising dollar even when those companies have lied, cheated and misled the customers/ voters/ taxpayers. no criticizem is allowed for fear of losing those accounts.

I too was glad to see Rick go,but it was a big mistake to have Brian Rowell take his place. These to abuse their power and have been at the paper too long.

Try this one, They charge an astronomical price to print an obituary, and then they cant even print it on the correct date in the paper.I called and talked to JT Spanner and he blamed the funeral home. The Parkersburg News & Sentinel sucks!!!

Patt Abrahamson Escanaba, MI | Posted at 8:19am on Friday, March 19, 2010 |
I was a columnist for the Daily Press for 4 years. I am also a published writer on a national level. It is no secret that my column was the most popular column in the press. My second published book of the first two years of columns is a huge success. Rick Rudden was aware of the pulse of the community and what my column meant to the local "folks." However, Mr Crofton didn't have a clue and didn't care. His arrogance and indifference was the catalyst that caused me to discontinue my column. I am in my seventies and wrote about local history, sports, current events, local people, politics, the Depression and how it related to "us" (the folks that lived through it. I also interviewed local folks and did special stories. A quote from Rick Rudden who understood the significance of my column, "I have little doubt that Patt Abrahamson is one of the most poplular columists of the Daily Press. Week after week she touches her readers with humor, sensitivity and warmth. She has an innate ability to know what people care about."
To whom it concerns: Rick Rudden was well respected and had the unique advantage of being born and bred in this community. What a loss when he was eliminated by Crofton. Our community suffered as well as the Daily Press in their readership and probably in subscriptions. Dozens of people wrote when I stopped writing. Crofton printed only one. Incidently he also discontinued paying the pittance local columnists were getting.

It is time to bring back our former editor of the Daily Press (Escanaba,MI)...RICK RUDDEN...He received many awards for his leadership and was dismissed rather abruptly, some time ago...
His replacement did not work..so let us get back to what really worked for us...Thanks....

Since receiving the E Mail from the times, telling me that my letter would not be printed, I have resubmitted the letter with the parts deleted that they did not agree with.
I also have sent Ms. Houtman, an E Mail, showing Right Wing Extremists, calling the president and other officials, Murderers.
I have asked for an explanation, why my letter did not get printed, when all I did, was question why people running for city council, would pay thousands of dollars to get the job, when it pay's a pittance. I guess that was just too far over the line, according to her.
Ms. Houtman, is a right wing hack. She knows nothing about freedom of the press. To her, freedom of the press, is only free, if she agrees with it.
It is time for Ogden News, to rid itself of such idiots, and put someone in charge, who does not want to control the news, just print it.

Don't get your selves all worked up about Ogden's Newspapers. It will just be a few more years, and the whole News Paper industry, will be a thing of the past.
I can't say I will miss it either.
Long live the Internet, where real news can be discussed by all, not just the corporate elite.

I have lived in Marietta, for quite some time, and I agree with Mr. Combs. I have sent a letter to the editor on three different times, only to have them tell me it was not printable.
I have seen much worse stuff printed in this rag of a newspaper, against President Obama, Ted Strickland and Charlie Wilson, then that of any republican holding office.
I agree, that the only way to hold this paper accountable, is to not renew. Maybe we should contact the local democratic party, and get their mailing lists, and urge all democrats, not to subscribe to this Right Wing Piece of Junk.
Once we put them out of business, then we might be able to get a reliable paper, that does not side with the right wing extremists.

Michael Combs Marietta Ohio, USA | Posted at 2:58pm on Monday, December 7, 2009 |
We have an editor, who considers herself the moral guardian of the community. If someone submits an article to the letter to the editor, and it does not coincide with her right wing believes, it does not get published.
I am about to solve that problem, by not renewing my paper, as it comes due the end of December.
